Habitat and Birds

The tiny berg of Imnaha is located at the confluence of several waterways, so it has the potential to be a bottleneck for migrating passerines. It also provides a good amount of riparian area surrounded by steep canyons. Some of the birds you might see here include Common Merganser, Chukar, Spotted Sandpiper, Vaux’s Swift, Belted Kingfisher, Lazuli Bunting, Lark Sparrow, a myriad of migrants and both Canyon and Rock Wrens. Check out the gardens and ornamental plantings during summer. You may be able to pick up a Broad-tailed Hummingbird. The riparian strip going up and down the Imnaha River, as well as Big Sheep Creek, host Lewis’s Woodpecker, Tree Swallow, Bullock’s Oriole. Both Yellow-billed Cuckoo and Peregrine Falcon have been reported from this area in the past.
