From central Port Orford at Highway 101 and 9th Street, travel 5.3 miles (or 2.5 miles south of the Rocky Point Bridge on Highway 101) to the bridge over Brush Creek. Just south of the bridge in 0.1 mile, park in a pull-out on the right (west) side of the highway. Hike down to the estuary below. There is also a trail to the estuary from the Humbug Mountain State Park campground which is another 0.5 miles further south on Highway 101. The entrance to the campground is on the left (east) side of the highway. The trailhead for Humbug Mountain trail is 0.1 mile south of the entrance to Humbug Mountain State Park campground. Look for the sign for the trail in a pull-out on the right (west) side of Highway 101 where parking is available.

Habitat and Birds

Gulls and shorebirds can be abundant at the estuary. On the trail to Humbug Mountain you might be able to get good looks at one of Oregon’s most beautiful warblers, the Hermit warbler.
