Location
From Redmond, take Hwy 126 west to the bridge that crosses the Deschutes River near Cline Falls State Park. From the bridge, continue west on 126 for 4.0 miles and Barr Road will be on your left. Turn left onto Barr Road and drive a half mile to get away from the OHV Staging Area. Begin birding this area as you work your way south. CAUTION: THIS IS AN UNIMPROVED ROAD AND IS VERY ROUGH. PASSENGER CARS CAN MANAGE FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF MILES BUT ROCKY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL. HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLES ARE REQUIRED BEYOND THAT. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ROAD IN SNOWY OR WET CONDITIONS. This is primarily BLM land. So feel free to get out and roam around.
DirectionsHabitat and Birds
Juniper forest and open sagebrush scrub. All along this dirt road there are other open areas good for Chipping Sparrow, Brewer’s Sparrow, Sagebrush Sparrow and Lark Sparrow. Pinyon Jay, Clark’s Nutcracker, Mountain Bluebird, Mountain Chickadee, Ash Throated Flycatcher, and Gray Flycatcher are also seen throughout.
