Location

Harris Beach State Park is north of Brookings 1.2 miles where there is camping and a day-use area and beach. From Highway 101 and 5th Street in Brookings, travel north 1.2 miles on Hwy 101. The entrance to Harris Beach SP is on the left (west side) of the highway. Arch Rock and larger Goat Island (aka Bird Island) can be seen from the day-use area parking where you can scope for nesting sea birds and loafing gulls.

Habitat and Birds

Some very rare birds have been found here over the years, including Bar-tailed Godwit, Least Tern, Tropical Kingbird, White Wagtail, Cape May Warbler, and Prairie Warbler. More common species might include Surfbird, Dunlin, Surf Scoter, Red-throated Loon, Pacific Loon, Western Grebe, Pelagic Cormorant, Brant’s Cormorant, Brown Pelican, and Whimbrel.
