DirectionsHabitat and Birds
This park consists of open grassland, mixed shrubby vegetation, larger trees, a riparian zone along Bear Creek, and a pond. It is worth visiting in any season, hosting a nice variety of birds. Sparrows abound in winter. In spring and summer, Rufous Hummingbird, Vaux’s Swift, Swainson’s Thrush, Willow Flycatcher, Common Yellowthroat, Orange-crowned and Wilson’s Warblers, Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak, and Lazuli Bunting are among the breeding species one might expect. Year-round, look for waterfowl on the pond, woodpeckers, finches, chickadees, nuthatches and other passerines anywhere, and several species of raptors, Red-shouldered Hawk, all three accipters (goshawk — rare), and even Golden Eagle (rare).
