Location

From Highway 101 south of Lincoln City go east on Highway 229 for about .6 mile. Use the pullout on the south side of the road to scan the river and the marsh on the north side of the road.

Go to the Oregon Birding Trail Website. Choose the Oregon Coast Birding Trail. Click on the Central Coast tab and go to section 53.

Habitat and Birds

In the river look for Canada Goose and Common Merganser, and in late winter/early spring Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser and Bufflehead.   Maybe even a loon or a grebe.

In the marsh Virginia Rail are often heard, also look for Spotted Sandpipers, as well as the occasional migrating shorebird or warbler.  Swallows and Purple Martins are active in the summer months, along with Belted Kingfisher, various woodpeckers, Steller’s Jays, chickadees, Marsh Wrens, Swainson’s Thrushes and robins.
