Location
Mitchell is a tiny community on Hwy 26 about 47 miles east of Prineville and about 70 miles west of John Day. While the center of town offers little, both ends of the town can be birdy, especially the park on the east end of town and the residential area above the retail part of town.

Birds here include Wild Turkey, Western Scrub-Jay, Eurasian Collared-Dove, both kinglets, Cedar Waxwing, Lazuli Bunting and Evening Grosbeak. Several houses have hummingbird feeders up; Look for Black-chinned Hummingbird, Rufous Hummingbird and Anna’s Hummingbird. Yellow-breasted Chat along the creek and Say’s Phoebes are possible on the west end of Mitchell near Highway 26. Canyon Wren is sometimes heard from the canyon across Highway 26.
