Location
It’s best to find these lakes via the area by Eastern Oregon University. To access the region near the university, take Exit 259; proceed on US Highway 30 into La Grande. Turn right at the second set of lights onto Fourth Street. Continue on Fourth Street until you reach the “K” Avenue. Take “K” Avenue all the way to the west end. Turn left (south) on Sunset Drive (it will shortly become Alder St.). Turn right on “C” Avenue and go one block. Turn left (South) on Walnut Street. Walnut will leave town and become Morgan Lake Road. After about 1 mile from town, look for a fork in the road. Take the right fork (Morgan Lake Road). Stay on this road for about 1.2 miles to a junction. Take the right (north) to the lakes. Morgan Lake is near the road but Twin Lake is a tenth of a mile west and somewhat obscured by trees.
DirectionsHabitat and Birds
These small lakes offer some habitat for visiting waterfowl. They hold some potential for visitors like Snow Geese and grebes. The forests around the lake can be productive for most of the local forest species. Twin Lake is very marshy and has the potential for many nesting species.
