Habitat and Birds

This floodplain wetland is located on the east bank of the Willamette River in the hart of Portland.  Common residents include Red-breasted Sapsucker, Bewick’s and Winter Wrens, Anna’s Hummingbird and Hutton’s Vireo.  In winter, ducks and geese can be seen in the water and gulls in the adjacent river, while in the woods watch for Varied and Hermit Thrushes, Sooty Fox and Golden-crowned Sparrows.  Ospreys and Bald Eagles nest in the area.  The refuge also hosts warblers and flycatchers during migration.
