Location
From Prineville, take Combs Flat Road to the stop sign. At this junction, you can either go straight and access the reservoir via North Shore Road (20 mi), or you can turn right and reach Prineville reservoir on Juniper Canyon Road (15 mi.). Once you reach the lake, there are several places to check out.
Lake pullouts – There are several several places along the lake to pull over and scope the water.
Prineville Reservoir State Park – 44.12985935034093, -120.72269479731199 – From the stop sign at the corner of Combs Flat Road and Hwy 380, turn right and drive 13.4 miles to the park entrance.
Jasper Point State Park Boat Ramp – 44.13561154327714, -120.69392005883846 – From the park entrance to Prineville Res. S.P., continue east instead of going into the park. Drive 2.4 miles up and over a hill to Jasper Point State Park.
Social Security Beach – 44.12563917913496, -120.69481055240097 – From Jasper Pt. S.P., continue east for 0.7 miles to SS Beach

The lake often hosts Common and Pacific Loons and good numbers of ducks in late fall. Surf Scoters are almost annual here. Check with the camp host at Prineville Reservoir and they will tell you about the nesting Great Horned Owls. Prineville Reservoir State Park is good for waxwings and Red-breasted Sapsuckers in winter. Use the pullouts and Jasper Point S.P. boat ramp to scope the lake for late fall waterfowl. Social Security Beach is a hot shorebird spot in the fall. The lake usually freezes by December.
