Smith Rock State Park — Interpretive Hike
June 2 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
ECBA INTERPRETIVE HIKE AT SMITH ROCK STATE PARK
Monday, June 2nd. Limited to 8 participants.
Get an inside view of the rich natural and cultural history of Smith Rock State Park with the park’s former interpretive naturalist. Known to the Northern Paiute as the animal village and the birthplace of modern sport climbing, Smith Rock is one of our state’s seven wonders. We will evenly divide our day between exploring the explosive geologic events that shaped the park, identifying native plants, viewing nesting raptors and other birds.
Meet up: Behind the welcome center yurt at 8:00am. Park pass and ECBA wavier required.
Please bring: Water, snacks and/or lunch. Sturdy boots and hiking stick recommended, and binoculars, of course!
Hike description: This is a moderate hike of approximately 3.5 miles at a leisurely pace of about 5 hours. From the welcome center we will hike the Rim Rock Trail, drop into the canyon via the Rope De Dope Trail, go up the Wolf Tree Trail then head back up on either the Service Road or the Chute Trail.
