Stump Lake is on the right side of highway. Good place to take a lunchbreak while viewing the water Go L,(across the highway) to start the Mowich loop; Take FR 4780 (Mowich Loop Road) 2 mi to FR 999; R on FR 999 for 3.9 mi to FR 365; R 1.4 mi to Hwy 138;

mid-elevation mixed conifer forest with lodgepole pine; open water and riparian habitat, brush habitat

Ruffed and Sooty grouse, nesting Barrow’s Goldeneye Spotted Sandpiper ; Olive-sided Flycatcher, Yellow-rumped, Nashville and Hermit Warblers, Mountain and Chestnut-backed Chickadees Chipping and Fox Sparrows, with superb views of Sawtooth Ridge, Mt. Thielsen, and Mt. Bailey.
