Location
This is a 0.3 mile trail that is either packed gravel or has a boardwalk. It is wheelchair accessible. There are five exposed wooden steps 6 inches high following th eboardwalk. There is a bench near the end of the trail loop. The trail is located in the NW edge of the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. There is a parking lot and pit toilet. Habitat and Birds
The area is reliable for Say’s Pheobe, Western Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike, Lark Sparrow, Western Meadowlark, Chukar and Common Nighthawk. From a distance and from the higher elevation of the trail, you may be able to see waterfowl at nearby Painted Cove which is on private land and closed to the public.
