Habitat and Birds

This area provides excellent views of the Columbia River and in fall and winter is the best place in the county for various sea birds.  Western Grebes can be present in large numbers and there often is a Clark’s Grebe or two mixed in.  Red-necked Grebe has now become fairly common there in winter.  Horned Grebes are fairly common as are Surf Scoters, and both White-winged and Black Scoters show there most years.  Large rafts of scaup, mostly Lessers but Greaters as well, and rarities like Tufted Duck and Long-tailed Duck have been seen there.  Common Loons are often seen, while Pacific and Red-breasted Loons are rarer but can sometimes be found.

A note for county listers is that the state line is roughly mid-river, so birds north of there are in Clark County, WA.
