Location
Dayton is located five miles east of McMinnville as the crow flies. From southern McMinnville, take Hwy 18 east and turn south on Hwy 221 to reach the center of Dayton. The town itself has plenty of ornamental trees to attract birds and Courthouse Square Park on Main Street provides some good birding. Palmer Creek and the Yamhill River form the eastern and southern boundaries of the town and are worth exploring. From the center of town, take Hwy 221 south and turn onto SE Neck Road. This will give you a drive along the Yamhill River. The Dayton sewage ponds are located east of town, across the Yamhill River. Return to Hwy 18, cross the river and turn in at the RV Park, turn right immediately to go around the park to the ponds. There is parking next to a CLOSED footbridge. Walk the road and peek over the dike to see the ponds.
