Coming from the west, Fossil is 48 miles from Hwy 97. From Hwy 97 near Willowdale, take Hwy 293 to Antelope and then Hwy 218 to Fossil. Coming from the Columbia River, and I-84, take exit 137 at Arlington. Travel on Hwy 19 south for 58 miles to Fossil (most of this route is in Gilliam County so check the Gilliam page for all the good spots to bird along the way).

Look for both Eurasian Collared-Dove and Western Scrub-Jay in this little town. Harris’s Sparrow, Evening Grosbeak, and Blue Jay have also been seen in town. Things as different as Mountain Quail and Solitary Sandpiper have been found here.
