Location

Umpqua NF, North Umpqua RD. Take Hwy 138, east to FR 4760 at MP 47.55 0.1 mi E of Dry Creek store; Go left on 4760 for 1.5 miles, go R on spur road 040; 0.1 mi to gazebo. This is a trailhead leading into the western part of the Boulder Creek Wilderness

Following road 4760 will produce a range of conifer habitat up to 4500 feet elevation

Habitat and Birds

The habitat combination is unique to the North Umpqua Ranger District. Mixed low-elevation mature Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine forest surrounds a large dry meadow;

forest species include Chipping Sparrow, Cassin’s Vireo, Ruffed Grouse, Brown Creeper, Red Breasted Sapsucker, and Hermit Warbler; Townsend’s Solitaire Ovenbird has been seen once.
