Due to snow, Rabbit Ears-Hershberger Mt is closed Dec-May.
For all the listers, most of the route is in Jackson County and enters Douglas County near Rabbit Ears. The Forest Service doesn’t have dependable maintenance or signs. You may only be able to do part of the route because of slides, downed trees and other hazards.
Rogue River-Siskiyou NF, High Cascades RD. From Prospect, 12.0 mi N on Hwy 62 to L on Hwy 230; from Hwy 62/230 junction, 0.9 mi N on Hwy 230 to L on FR6510; 1.7 mi to R on FR 6515; 6.7 mi to Rabbit Ears trailhead; 1.1 mi to R on FR 530; 2.5 mi to summit and lookout.

Rabbit Ears have hosted nesting Peregrine Falcon; Calliope and Rufous Hummingbirds, Rock and Canyon Wrens are possible; Fox and Lincoln’s Sparrow, Hermit Warbler; Dusky, Pacific-slope and Hammond’s Flycatcher, Western Tanager. Steller’s and Gray Jays, Mountain and Chestnut-backed Chickadees.
