From I-5 north of Salem take the Keizer exit (260), go west on Chemawa Rd. Chemawa goes left just west of the freeway, but go straight and follow Lockhaven Dr to River Rd. Turn right on River Rd and then a quick left onto Promenade St. There is some parking available on the east end of the lake, which is the only public access point. There is a trail around the lake, but it is for private use only by residents and their guests.

In fall and winter the lake attracts large numbers of waterfowl and gulls, including many rarities. Over 120 species have been reported.
