Location

Free of snow [May – November] From I-5 exit 124 in Roseburg follow the signs for Hwy 138 east 59 miles, turn left on Forest Rd 34 (Toketee Rigdon Rd). At 0.2 miles stay left at the fork (right fork goes to the Toketee Ranger Station). Go 1.9 miles and turn right on FR 3401 (gravel road); go approximately 4.2 miles to where Thorn Prairie begins and continues for about 2 miles

Habitat and Birds

Habitat: unique eastside Cascade vegetation, white thornbrush, lodgepole pine, mixed conifer.

Birds: best place in county for Calliope Hummingbird and Green-tailed Towhee, Dusky Flycatcher, Black-backed Woodpecker, other woodpeckers, Western Screech and Barred Owls have been heard at site, Nashville and MacGillivray’s warblers, Fox Sparrow breeds in area, nice variety of forest passerines. Best birding: May-July.
