Join a Christmas Bird Count

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a census of birds in the Western Hemisphere, performed annually in the early Northern-hemisphere winter by volunteer birdwatchers and administered by the National Audubon Society. The purpose is to provide population data for use in science, especially conservation biology, though many people participate for recreation. The CBC is the longest-running citizen science survey in the world.

Bend Saturday, December 14th
Summer Lake Tuesday, December 17th
Sunriver Friday, December 20th
Sheldon NWR Friday, December 20th
Madras Thursday, December 26th
Tygh Valley Thursday, December 26th
Prineville Tuesday, December 31st
Redmond Thursday, January 2nd
Antelope Friday, January 3rd
Antone Saturday, January 4th
Utopia Saturday, January 4th

The Pinyon Jay

Here in Central Oregon, for over 10 years, ECBA volunteer Kevin Smith has invested his time and inspired others to report sitings of Pinyon Jays, and over the last 5 years Ken Hashagen, together with Kevin, have helped provide banding data to ODFW and the USGS Birding Lab.
